Mumbai, Apr 25: In view of the coronavirus situation in the state, any
decision regarding university and college examinations will be taken
only after the receipt of guidelines from the University Grants
Commission (UGC). Students should not believe in rumors and wrong
information clarified Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday
Samant.
Samant interacted with the vice-chancellors of non-agriculture
universities through video-conferencing today and reviewed the working
of the committee set up in respect of university examinations.
The minister said that the UGC has appointed a committee to look into
conducting examinations for all universities in the country. The
immediate decision on the report of the committee will be taken only
after the guidelines of the UGC are received, he added. All
universities have made preparations for conducting examinations on
their respective levels. Online teaching is going on but no decision
is taken regarding online examinations. Students will be informed
about the examination from time to time and care will be taken to see
that no student is deprived of examination, he said.
Corona testing labs
Corona testing labs will be started in all the universities. So far,
this lab is functional at Swami Ramananda Teerth Marathwada
Vidyapeeth, Nanded. The work of the laboratory is in the final stage
at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada Vidyapeeth, Aurangabad, and Sant
Gadgebaba Amravati Vidyapeeth, Amravati.
The Savitribai Phule Pune University has developed a ventilator to
fight the coronavirus and this will be used in five hospitals soon.
‘Life Saving course’ is being made at the SNDT University and the
students completing this course will be helping the health system.
This course will also impart lessons on disaster management to the
students, Samant said.
He appealed to every university to donate some amount from its
emergency funds to the CM’s Relief Fund COVID-19 to enable the state
government to fight with the coronavirus.
Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Department Saurabh Vijay,
Director Dhanraj mane, Maharashtra Technical Education Directorate
Director Dr. Abhay Wagh, all members of the university exams committee
and vice-chancellors of all universities participated in this meeting.
